Florals
Loi believed in always painting “in situ”. As a result, one would often find her painting in various public spaces such as restaurants.
Fentons restaurant offered Loi a variety of displays and environments that were of such aesthetic pleasure that Loi was found there painting every morning for a number of years. Famous for the gorgeous floral arrangements placed throughout the restaurant, Loi eagerly painted this ever-changing cornucopia of fresh flowers from around the world. Many of Loi’s finest florals come from this period.
The technique is lively, energetic, and free. Her “stylistic fingerprint” is very evident in these florals; the white of the paper is just as important as the painted surface. Both elements must be in conversation, where the void and the filled space communicate the subject.
